Current approaches to gather customer measurements via 3D scanning technologies employ statistical analysis, biometric analysis, or 3D reconstruction using photogrammetry. These approaches are advanced enough to represent human’s feet accurately as a 3D model as well as providing relatively precise meta data and the measurements, relevant to produce made to measure footwear. But, they fall short as they do not consider the unique properties of the shoe product itself and how they react with the nuances of each individual foot.

To go from a 3D scan of a foot to the selection of a suitable shoe, or the adjustment of a 3D CAD pattern of a customized pair of shoes to manufacturing; other supporting methods need to be employed to attain the result of a truly well-fitted pair of shoes.
